As the Jathedar, Vedanti is the senior high priest in a group of five that governs Sikhism from the Golden Temple, the holiest of Sikh temples, located in Amritsar, India. He has held various service positions at the Golden Temple for the past forty years, and was at the Golden Temple in 1984 during Operation Bluestar--a violent confrontation between the Sikhs and the Indian Army. He has been known for speaking out strongly for women's equality in the Sikh faith.
